🔍🧪 Mystery Material Lab in Physical Science!
Our Physical Science students put their investigative skills to work during a Mystery Material Lab! Students were challenged to identify 12 unknown substances using one important scientific clue — density.
Each group carefully:
⚖️ Measured the mass of each cylinder
📏 Calculated the volume
🧮 Determined the density
🔎 Compared their results with known densities to uncover each mystery material
This hands-on lab helped students see how math and science work together while building critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Great teamwork, focus, and curiosity on display in the lab today!
Way to think like scientists, Bears!

Today, Hardin Northern held our January Career Connections Lunch & Learn, and we were excited to welcome back Hardin Northern alumni, Zane Whitaker! Zane is the owner of Whitaker Performance Machining.
Zane shared an inside look at the world of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining, explaining the different types of machines and how they are used in fabrication and manufacturing. He walked students through the education and apprenticeship programs available in our area and described the pathway he took to get where he is today.
Zane also spoke honestly about entrepreneurship, reminding students that starting your own business takes hard work and planning and is not something to rush into. He brought samples of items he has created using various materials, giving students a hands-on view of what CNC technology can produce.
He emphasized that the demand for qualified workers in this field is growing and discussed the earning potential for those entering the profession.
It was an extremely informative and inspiring session for our students. Thank you, Zane, for taking the time to return to Hardin Northern and share your knowledge and experience in fabrication and manufacturing. We truly appreciate you investing in our students and their futures!

✨ Biology in Action! ✨
Biology I students kicked off their new unit on DNA and genetics by creating timelines highlighting the scientists who played key roles in the discovery of DNA. From early research to groundbreaking discoveries, students explored how teamwork, perseverance, and curiosity shaped one of the most important scientific breakthroughs in history.
This engaging activity helped students connect past discoveries to the science they are learning today and set the stage for an exciting unit ahead!

Today we’re taking a trip back to 1962, straight from the pages of the Northern Lites yearbook, to highlight some of Hardin Northern’s coaching legends.
These coaches weren’t just leading teams on the field or court; they were shaping character, building traditions, and instilling pride that continues to define Hardin Northern today. They helped lay the foundation for the strong Polar Bear spirit we still carry on today.

🔬Hands-on Learning in Physical Science! 🔬
Students in Physical Science completed several interactive lab stations to explore the world of matter! They investigated physical properties such as viscosity, density, and solubility, and learned the differences between elements, compounds, and mixtures through engaging, hands-on activities.
It was great to see our students thinking critically, asking questions, and learning science by doing.

Good evening. The Hardin Northern School District plans to be in session tomorrow at the normal start time.
The temperatures are still very cold but look to be warmer than the last few days. Please make sure that all students are dressed warmly and appropriately for the conditions. Our bus drivers will do their best to limit the time that students have to wait at the bus stops, but please do not send students out earlier than expected.
We look forward to seeing everyone back in the building tomorrow and we appreciate your continued support and understanding.
Have a good evening and be safe.
