🔔 The British are Coming! (And Our 4th Graders Know It!)
Our 4th-grade "Makers" just finished an incredible cross-curricular adventure that brought history to life with a modern, high-tech twist! 💡📜
To wrap up their latest unit, students combined their knowledge of Social Studies and Science to tackle a high-stakes challenge: building an early warning system for the American Revolution.
🛠️ The Mission
Using Snap Circuits, students stepped into the shoes of colonial engineers. Their goal? To design and build functional alarm systems that could have theoretically alerted the Americans that the British were marching.
📚 Why it Matters
This project wasn't just about snapping wires together; it was a deep dive into two worlds:
Science: Students mastered the flow of electricity, understanding open vs. closed circuits and how to integrate switches and buzzers.
Social Studies: They explored the urgency of the Revolutionary War and the critical importance of communication during Paul Revere’s era.
Seeing our students bridge the gap between 18th-century history and 21st-century technology was truly "electrifying!" We are so proud of their problem-solving skills and creativity.

🏅 Second Grade Goes for Gold! 🏅
This month, our second graders dove into an exciting Olympic-themed unit across multiple subjects!
In reading, students learned about the history of the Olympic Games and how they began. They read biographies about inspiring Team USA Olympians and explored the different winter sports that make up the Olympic Games.
In math, we worked on picture graphs and data collection by creating a picture graph of the USA’s medal count. To wrap up our unit, students put their “mathletic” skills to the test by using note values to practice math in a fun and engaging way!
Our young writers imagined themselves standing on the podium as gold medalists and wrote narrative pieces about their big win.
In gym, students learned the basics of curling and tested their skills firsthand. They also had a blast playing Olympic Torch Tag!
STEAM time brought even more creativity. Students explored magnetism by designing their own figure skaters using paper plates and magnets. They even experimented with “tabletop curling” using straws and bottle caps.
In music, we learned about John Williams, the composer of the Olympic Fanfare. We listened to some of his other recognizable pieces from popular movies and practiced steady beats by passing a “torch” around the room to a metronome at varying speeds. Students also created rhythms based on Olympic-themed words by clapping syllable patterns. During our “Composolympics,” each student composed and shared their own rhythm with the class!
What an incredible, cross-curricular journey filled with teamwork, creativity, and learning. Our second graders truly went for gold! 🏅✨👏
