The second grade has been learning all about endangered and extinct animals, and they wrapped up their unit with an exciting dinosaur dig! It was a lot of fun, and the kids had a great time exploring and discovering. What a great way to bring learning to life!

Mrs. Hipsher is getting kids geared up for this year's Author Visit with Bruce Hale! This week in the library, students have enjoyed Hale's Clark the Shark fiction books and learning about real sharks through non-fiction books. They have been creating their own colorful sharks, writing facts about sharks, and writing descriptions of Clark the Shark. The Author Visit is scheduled for Thursday, May 15.

Congratulations to Madilyn Suter and Gio Noascono on being recognized by the Ohio Middle Level Association. Today they attended the annual Northwest Region Ohio Middle Level Association “Breakfast of Champions” at Van Buren Middle School. They were both nominated by their teachers and are being recognized as top students in Northwest Ohio for their character, leadership, and service.
Congratulations Madilyn and Gio!

Kindergarten worked hard leading up to Saint Patrick’s day creating leprechaun traps! We knew that the leprechaun would be around on March 17 so we worked together to come up with traps. Unfortunately that leprechaun got through the traps and even ate the bait (lucky charms cereal) we set out for him. But he wrote us a long letter and even gave us some chocolates. Now we are writing all about him. We created "wanted" posters, made a craft explaining what we would do with his gold, and gave our opinions on if we think he is nice or sneaky. Fun times in March!

This week Ms. DeLong's class learned about alliterations. They practiced writing alliterations by creating crazy ice cream flavors. They ended the week by trying out some unusual ice cream and writing about their favorites!

Last week Ms. DeLong's class practiced "digging up inferences." They read the story Sam and Dave Dig a Hole, made a shovel craft, and wrote their inferences. Then they were able to dig up their own special gems.

Preschool this week had fun practicing our writing by using shaving cream! We practiced writing our letters and drawing "Mat Man". They had a blast!

Liam Baier is the first 5th grader this year to complete his 40 Book Challenge. 5th Graders are encouraged to read 40 books over the school year to widen their knowledge of genre when choosing books. Great job, Liam!
