Student engineers documented their design process to help organize their work and support their decisions. The design process is rarely linear so they were encouraged to repeat steps if necessary in order to achieve an optimal solution most often through the development of multiple iterations.
Students’ goal: Using only the materials provided, design and build a device to launch a ping pong ball or small bag of rice and send it as far as possible.
  • Brainstorming time limited to 15 minutes.
  • Building time limited to 5 minutes.
