The concept of the mousetrap car is to show the idea of the conservation of energy. If students had been able to do this in class, they would have worked together with a partner to “find” a way to measure the energy (work) that they put into the mousetrap to set it. They would have compared this value to the energy (work) that produced the motion (speed and distance) of the car. Since students had to do this independently from home, some students used mouse trap car kits and compared their results, and some students built trebuchets to see how far an object would fly, and looked at the conservation of energy through those experiments.
