Mrs. Settlage, 5th Grade

The fifth grade completed a PBL about the water crisis in Sudan. They read a book called A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park in Language Arts class. This novel highlights the courageous life of Salva Dut. After all of the struggles throughout his young life as a refugee, he now gives back to his country through the organization Water for Southern Sudan. This organization drills wells for villages in this country. The class led  school-wide fundraiser during the month of March to fund a portion of a well. On the PBL showcase night, the 5th grade hosted a bake sale to help raise funds. On May 17, they will hold a “Water Walk” around the track to represent the walk that many women in Africa have to make each day.  They will be walking 3 miles which represents the halfway point of the average water walk.
