Hardin Northern Recognizes Banner Year in Academics

 

On Friday, May 20 at 12:30 pm, the Hardin Northern community gathered in the varsity gym to recognize students for their academic achievements.  Mr. Cano welcomed all in attendance and thanked them for supporting the students in their most important endeavor, academics.  

Teachers recognized the top students in their classes and departments.  In the Foreign Language Department: Spanish I-Sean Kuhlman, Spanish II-Cooper Thomas, and Mrs. Bejarano’s GRIT award- Emma Martin.

Senior Students with a 3.5-4.0 GPA for the year were:  Angela Allen, Kaden Kirkpatrick, Jacob Diller, Jonah Diller, Kennedy Hall, Jadi Herrod-Gonzalez, Kobee Hooker, Cadence Lamb, Layla Perkins, Nevin Robson, Tosha Shepherd, and Madison Wilch.  

Senior students with a 3.0-3.49 GPA for the year were: Kaden Carpenter, Quinton Dirmeyer, Brenna Flowers, Georgia Grindell, Logan Morrison, Paytin Pore, and Shelby Rickenbacher.  Underclassmen will be recognized for outstanding grade point averages during the fall academic awards assembly.

Nevin Robson was recognized as the Honda/Ohio State STEM Medal award winner.

Pam Hamilton from World Link presented the school a special recognition for hosting Sabina Galimova from Kazakhstan.  

Toni and Scott McKee awarded Nevin Robson a Keegan McKee Scholarship.

Rozina Eikenbary presented Brenna Flowers with a Rob Eikenbary Memorial Scholarship.

The Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Jadi Herrod-Gonzalez as the DAR Good Citizen Award winner for Hardin Northern.

Miss Overs and Ms. Cross presented a Red Cross Scholarship for $250 to Kennedy Hall.

Mr. Mast presented Seniors Kennedy Hall and Nevin Robson and Juniors Leif Trachsel, Alyssa Heldman, Emma Martin, Cadence Coy, Bella Wilson, Lauren Lenhart, Kylee Legge, Zach Spearman, Zeb Wilson, and Katie Good with NWCC All Academic awards.  

Ohio gives an honors diploma to seniors that have met seven of these eight requirements: 4 units of English, 3 units of math Algebra and above, 3 units of science, 3 units of social studies, 3 units of foreign language, 3 additional units from the above, 1 unit of performing art, a 3.5 GPA or higher, and a 27 or higher on ACT.  Seniors receiving Ohio Honors Diplomas are: Angela Allen, Jadi Herrod-Gonzalez, and Layla Perkins.

The Hardin Northern Community scholarships go to senior students who apply and are going on to post secondary schooling.  6 seniors won a $500 scholarship.  A special thank you to the following for donating to the scholarship fund.

The Hardin Northern Scholarship Foundation presented Polar Bear Legacy Scholarships for $500 to Jacob Diller, Jonah Diller, Jadi Herrod-Gonzalez, and Nevin Robson and a $1,000 Norma Bibler Scholarship to Angela Allen.

The 2022 inductee into the Hall of Distinction, Ms. Susan Arn was announced.  She was formally inducted at graduation on May 22.

Hardin Northern also proudly recognized the 82 students (70% of student body) who earned college credit while attending Hardin Northern.  These students completed 278 college courses and accumulated 931 semester hours of credit roughly valued at between $558,000 (state institution) and $1,303,400 (private institution).  The credits were earned by the students at no cost to them or their parents.

 

Hardin Northern has offered the on-site dual credit courses for 17 years now.  Over those seventeen years, we have had 582 students participate in 1,537 classes earning 5,022 semester hours of college credit.  Estimated savings, between $3 million and $7 million depending on public or private institutions.
