Because of Covid19 Hardin Northern was unable to do their normal spring academic and senior recognition assembly. Instead, the school put together a video that recognizes each graduating senior, scholarship winners, CCP participants, special award winners, and the Hall of Distinction Winner. The video can be viewed at hardinnorthern.org. Academic awards and pins, student council, quiz bowl, perfect attendance, and all A students will be recognized at the fall awards assembly.

  • Students recognized as Peer Tutors were: Daylin Pees, Audrey Gindell, Megan Miller, and Jadi Herrod-Gonzalez.
  • Megan Miller was recognized as the Honda/Ohio State Math Medal award winner.
  • Ada American Legion Post 185 recognized Lance Good for being selected to Buckeye Boys State and Mara Ruhlen for being selected to Buckeye Girls State.
  • Miss Overs and Mrs. Klir presented a Red Cross Scholarship for $250 to Emma Miller.
  • The Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Megan Miller as HN’s DAR Good Citizen Award Winner.
  • The Kenton Elks recognized Megan Miller and Hannah Flowers as the October Teens of the month, Audrey Grindell and Daylin Pees as the November teens of the month, Alex Jackson and Tristan Steele as the December teens of the month, Ella King as the January teen of the month, Hannah Souder and Frank McCoy as the March teens of the month, and Alex Stewart as the April teen of the month.
  • The Elks also recognized Tristan Steele as HN’s Male Teen of the Year and Megan Miller as the female Teen of the Year AND the HN Volunteer of the Year. Megan was named the Hardin County Volunteer of the Year and the County Teen of the Year.
  • New members of the National Honor Society were announced. Senior Ella King and Juniors Maddie Grappy and Luke Wilson.
  • The Hugh Obrien Youth Leadership Conference recognized Brenna Flowers for being selected for the HOBY youth leadership conference at ONU this summer.
  • The Midwest Regional Education Service Center recognized Megan Miller as both HN’s and Hardin County’s winner of the Franklin B Walter award.
  • Mr. Mast presented Lance Good, Maddie Grappy, Luke Wilson, Jolee Herrod-Gonzalez, Audrey Grindell, and Megan Miller with NWCC academic all conference awards.
  • Ohio gives an honors diploma to seniors that have met seven of these eight requirements: 4 units of English, 3 units of math Algebra and above, 3 units of science, 3 units of social studies, 3 units of foreign language, 3 additional units from the above, 1 unit of performing art, a 3.5 GPA or higher, and a 27 or higher on ACT. Seniors receiving Ohio Honors Diplomas are: Hannah Flowers, Audrey Grindell, Jolee Herrod-Gonzalez, and Megan Miller.
  • Graduation Honor Court requires students to have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Members are Jayce Curlis, Hannah Flowers, Audrey Grindell, Jolee Herrod-Gonzalez, Ella King, Megan Miller, Aby Russler, and Bella Shirk.

The Hardin Northern Scholarship Foundation presented three Polar Bear Legacy Scholarships for $500 to Brayden Flowers, Hannah Flowers, and Megan Miller and Aby Russler was awarded the Norma Bibler Scholarship. The foundation has now awarded over $8,000 in scholarships!

The 2020 inductee into the Hall of Distinction, Mrs. Tricia (Kritzler) Sloma, was announced. She will be formally inducted as part of graduation.

In addition to scholarships, Hardin Northern offers students the opportunity to get a head start on college through our Dual Credit program. This year, 58 students took advantage of this opportunity where the student takes college courses here at HN. Staff members were recognized that are willing to spend the extra time training as adjunct professors for colleges in our area. The university of Findlay has 3 adjunct professors on our staff: Mr. Mast in Calculus, Mrs. Bejarano for Spanish IV and Mrs. Uitto for Lit Appreciation. Rhodes state has two adjunct professors, Dr. Price for Government DC and American History from 1877 DC, and Mr. Foster for American History to 1877. A third adjunct will be added for next year, Mr. Reeves for STEM I, II, and III. In addition to our teachers, Rhodes offers American Sign Language I and II online to HN students using their professor. Franklin University has one adjunct professor, Ms. Sanecki for written communications. A total of 34 semester hours were possible this year at Hardin Northern.

Hardin Northern has offered the on-site dual credit courses for 14 years now. Over those fourteen years, we have had 439 students participate in 1,038 classes earning 3,366 semester hours of college credit. Estimated savings, between $2 and 4.7 million depending on public or private institutions.
