The fourth graders had a special visit from Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Put-In-Bay. Park ranger and historic weapons supervisor, Robert Whitman, spent the afternoon directing our costumed polar bears in a recreation of the Battle of Lake Erie. His visit was to prepare the fourth graders for their upcoming trip to Perry’s Monument. Through a grant sponsored by the National Parks Service, our students have the privilege, for the second year in a row, to participate in Perry’s Education Days. Besides a climb in Perry’s Monument to see the site of the battle, students will learn about preceding events and outcomes of the War of 1812 and experience life in a military camp of the era.
