On Saturday, October 8, the high school students were all excited as the 2016 homecoming dance approached. The homecoming dance started at 8:00 p.m. They announced all the attendants and everyone took pictures in the beginning. It was then time for the attendants’ dance. All the attendants danced together to “I Don’t Dance” by Lee Brice.
After that, the dance was in full swing as the seniors took the floor with their senior dance. The seniors huddled together and swayed to “Here’s to Never Growing Up” by Avril Lavigne. Mikalea Ayers said, “My emotions kind of got to me when the senior song was ending. It is upsetting, it felt like just yesterday I was getting ready for freshman homecoming. It flies by.”
Then all the students took the floor to show off their moves. The night started slow as the students were a little shy, but after a few started dancing, it all broke out. It seemed that the dances where it told you what to do were the most popular. Everyone joined in during songs like the “Cupid Shuffle”.
There were some mixed opinions about the dance while some enjoyed it and danced their feet off, others weren’t a fan of the playlist. Ayers said, “The DJ didn’t really play songs you can dance to.”
Some freshmen didn’t know what to expect heading into their first homecoming, but overall the students really enjoyed it. JoLee Herrod-Gonzalez said, “I thought it was great. Everyone was doing their own thing.” Others also thought it was a great night. Lexi Garmon said, “ It’s a time to get dressed up and feel good about yourself. It’s also a time that you can really just let loose with all of your friends.”
